Hal Holbrook, Legendary Journalists and Glider Veterans Tell Stories of Heroic Glider Pilots in New Film

Worldwide release on March 20, 2007
Screeners, movie trailer and clip reel now available

Pittsburgh, PA - February 23, 2007 - Inecom Entertainment Company, a producer and distributor of documentary and instructional films, announced that the worldwide release of the upcoming film, Silent Wings - The American Glider Pilots of World War II, will take place on March 20, 2007. Screeners are now available on request and a movie trailer and clip reel are available for review and download at www.SilentWingsFilm.com.

Narrated by acclaimed actor Hal Holbrook, the film includes interviews with National WWII Glider Pilots Association, Inc. Chairman Michael J. Samek, surviving glider veterans and legendary journalists Andy Rooney and Walter Cronkite, who flew into Holland with the 101st Airborne Division in 1944. The DVD is already available for preorder on select Internet retail sites and recently premiered to a sell-out crowd at the Soaring Society of America’s annual convention.

Writer and Producer/Director Robert Child says, “Being a glider pilot was among one of the toughest assignments in the war. These heroic men flew troops and supplies into battle - landing virtually on top of the enemy. If they survived the crash landing, then they fought on the ground. Thousands of lives were saved and battles won because of their efforts. In fact, one pilot we interviewed said - the 'G' in their emblem didn't stand for glider; it stood for 'guts'. I am pleased that we are able to bring their stories to life in this film."

From the early race to build gliders to the D-Day invasion at Normandy to Germany’s final surrender, Silent Wings – The American Glider Pilots of World War II reveals the critical role gliders played in World War II offensives. Through rare archival footage and photographs, the film places the audience right at the center of the action in the hazardous world of the American glider pilot. According to one general, glider pilots were considered to be “the most uninhibited individuals ever to wear an American uniform.”

Robert Child previously produced Inecom’s Lincoln and Lee at Antietam – The Cost of Freedom, which has been honored with a WorldFest Special Jury Award and the CINE Gold Eagle Award. Child’s other films include Gettysburg: Three Days of Destiny and Gettysburg: The Boys in Blue and Gray.

Inecom Entertainment Company Honors Our Nation's 16th President with Lincoln and Lee at Antietam DVD

Pittsburgh, PA - February 14, 2007 - Almost a century and a half after Abraham Lincoln's death, there is no shortage of interest in his life or contributions to our nation. In fact, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum recently celebrated the arrival of its one-millionth visitor and the National Constitution Center is currently displaying a rare printing of Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.

In February, Inecom Entertainment Company also honors our nation's 16th president with its DVD, Lincoln and Lee at Antietam - The Cost of Freedom, which documents the single bloodiest day in American history and vividly brings to life the story of America's fight for freedom in a battle that changed the course of the Civil War. Narrated by Ronald F. Maxwell, director of Gettysburg and Gods and Generals, the feature documentary is available at video stores, Internet retailers, educational and institutional distributors and large retail chains worldwide.

During the Civil War, President Lincoln needed a victory in order to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which remains today one of the most socially important documents in American history, shaping black history, as well as our nation as a whole. When Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s strategy fell into the hands of the Union Army, the result was the Battle of Antietam in Sharpsburg, Maryland. In the fight for freedom, nearly twice as many Americans died on that single day than had fallen in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Mexican War and the Spanish-American War combined. In striking comparison, American losses on the bloodiest day of World War II, D-Day, were a quarter of those at Antietam.

Lincoln and Lee at Antietam - The Cost of Freedom, which will appear on public television stations nationwide over President's Day weekend, tells the tale of the 14-hour epic Battle at Antietam and features commentaries from renowned historians such as:
  • James M. McPherson, Princeton University, Pulitzer Prize winning author of Battle Cry of Freedom and Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam;
  • Allen C. Guelzo, Gettysburg College, America’s only repeat winner of the Lincoln Prize; Nominated byPresident George W. Bush to the National Council on the Humanities;
  • Dennis E. Frye, National Park Service Historian at Harpers Ferry, author of Antietam Revealed and associate producer of Gods and Generals; and
  • Paul V. Chiles, National Park Service Historian at Antietam National Park.

Written, directed and produced by multiple-award winner Robert Child (Gettysburg: Three Days of Destiny,Gettysburg: The Boys in Blue and Gray and the upcoming Silent Wings - The American Glider Pilots of WWII), Lincoln and Lee at Antietam - The Cost of Freedom vividlybrings to life the story of America's fight for freedom.
